It was my honor to host the United States National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien today at Drake University.

One exchange in particular caught my attention... especially for leaders and students of Mr. O'Brien estimated he spends about 50% of his time acting proactively, and 50% of his time reacting to emerging threats. He wishes he could spend more time thinking ahead (don't we all), but in reality "stuff happens".

He said that in both cases the NSC follows a rigorous process that allows the team to (1) assess the current state and then (2) provide distinct options to the president for consideration. He emphasized the integrity of the process creates trust/faith in the eventual outcomes.
